What are Cranial Remolding Helmets?
Cranial remolding helmets are used to encourage pediatric skulls to be more symmetrical and proportional. Intervention starting at four to eight months generates the best results. Our specialized team of certified orthotists custom fit these young patients, and children usually respond well to this noninvasive treatment. What is the process for receiving a Cranial Remolding Helmet?
Your baby’s helmet will be designed, customized, and fit just for them - constructed to offer maximum comfort and efficacy..
In general, the process for receiving your 3D NEOPS Scoliosis Brace always includes the following steps:
Timeline
1
Evaluation
During your evaluation we’ll really get to know your baby. We’ll conduct a thorough physical evaluation and take you through all aspects of your baby’s cranial remolding orthosis (helmet). We will also develop a program of care, which is a clinician-supported roadmap that guides your baby to their best possible outcome. Establishing a program of care ensures patients and their families have an understanding and clear outline of what to expect during their treatment.
2
Scanning, Casting + Measuring
This is the first step in the helmet creation process. This is when we capture a model of your baby’s head that will be used to create their helmet. Scanning, using a state-of-the-art 3D scanner, photographs, and measurements will be used to create the helmet. The helmet is made out of hypoallergenic foam and plastic that are all manufactured in accordance with federal regulations.
3
Fitting + Delivery
Approximately 10-14 days after your scanning appointment you’ll come in for your baby’s helmet fitting and delivery. During this appointment, we will assess the helmet to ensure proper contact and growth areas are correct. Any final adjustments can be completed on site so you can leave with the helmet the same day. To help empower and educate you, we will give you a Guide that provides a timeline for follow-up appointments, a daily wearing schedules, and what you can expect from the helmet. The babies adjust very well to the helmet!
4
Follow Ups + X-rays
After the initial fitting, you will return for a first follow -up appointment in 2-3 weeks. We will examine your child’s head and record the changes that have occurred. We will inquire about the amount of time that the baby is spending in the helmet every day. While wearing the helmet might take some getting used to, we find that the babies become comfortable within the first couple of days. We will modify the inside of the helmet to ensure that the proper growth is continuing to occur. You will continue to have follow up appointments every 2 - 3 weeks until correction is achieved.
