Dave Motycka, CP, RFO

Dave Motycka, CP, RFO is Partner/Manager of the NEOPS branch in New London, Connecticut.

David received his Bachelor's degree from Branford College in 1988; his focus of studies was in physics and kinesiology. David has been working in the field of orthotics and prosthetics for over 20 years. He worked as a technician for 8 years fabricating braces and prosthetic limbs at the Newington Children's Hospital in Newington, Connecticut and in Miami, Florida. From Miami, he moved to Chicago where he attended Northwestern University Medical School and obtained a post graduate degree in Prosthetics. David served a 2 year residency in San Francisco, California where he focused mainly on prosthetics and set up a program with the Veterans Hospital providing immediate post operative prostheses for all of their new amputees. Another area that David concentrated on was in upper extremity myoelectric controlled prostheses. He also provided on call service applying his cervical braces for splint trauma victims in all the surrounding hospitals.

David moved back to New England where he established a prosthetic department for an organization in Boston in 1993. Once this was established, he was transferred to Charleston, South Carolina in 1994 where he started a new and very successful orthotic and prosthetic practice. In Charleston, he worked with the Medical University of South Carolina (“MUSC”) lecturing to the surgical residents on orthotics and prosthetics. He was contracted by MUSC to provide a 24-hour on call service to apply cervical halos and immediate postoperative prostheses.

One of David's areas of expertise led him to train extensively with children with cerebral palsy and manage various issues with orthotic bracing. He has attended several conferences at the Shriners Children's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and also at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, dealing with various techniques in pediatric orthotic management.

David left Charleston in 1995 and moved back to New England where he was a branch manager in Norwalk, Connecticut for a large orthotic and prosthetic provider. He has been trained in the advanced prosthetic knees systems, C-Leg and the Adaptive Knee, which use programmable microprocessors. Dave also has extensive experience in the most advanced trans femoral socket designs available.

David has lectured at AOPA conferences and for the Newington Certificate Program. He loves to teach orthotics and prosthetics to the new clinicians entering the filed as well as to his patients and their families to enable greater understanding of this field which he has devoted his life to helping others.
