Robert Foster, CPO

Robert Foster, CPO, brings 29 years of O & P experience to the Danbury branch.

After serving four years in the Air Force, maintaining aircraft communication equipment, Bob received a B. S. degree from the University of Connecticut in Biology. He completed his post graduate education in orthotics & prosthetics at New York University.

After a short work experience with the Eschen Orthotic & Prosthetic Lab in Harlem, N. Y., he joined the Veterans Administration's Prosthetic Research Center in Manhattan. There, he designed and co-developed the Genucentric Knee Joint and published an article in the Orthotic & Prosthetic Journal on the subject. This was the first re-examination of orthotic knee joints in many years and led to a wave of innovative new knee joint designs.

Bob's next work experience was at Newington Children's Hospital (now connecticut Children's Medical Center) where he became Senior Orthotist. While at Newington, he designed and patented the "Ultracentric Knee Joint", an improved version of the Genucentric Knee Joint.

In 1981 Bob began Westconn Orthopedic Laboratory, which successfully served the needs of Danbury and the greater western Connecticut area for twenty four years. Along with the general needs of the area, Bob has specialized in pediatric orthotics, serving a large population of severely involved Cerebral Palsy patients throughout Connecticut.

Recently, Bob merged Westconn Orthopedic Lab into the New England Orthotic & Prosthetic Systems, in order to expand the services provided to the area.
