Andrew Carroll, from our Hartford, CT branch traveled to support FOCUS during the Thanksgiving week. FOCOS, (The Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine), is a non-profit organization established in 1998 by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei. The mission of FOCOS is to provide comprehensive, affordable orthopedic and spine care to underserved communities in Ghana and throughout West Africa. With the indispensable assistance of over 1,800 donors who have contributed in excess of $10 million to date, FOCOS has evaluated thousands of patients from different parts of Africa and performed over 800 corrective orthopedic and joint procedures in Ghana for adult and pediatric populations.

Andrew assisted in designing and fitting patients from Ghana, Ethiopia, and Sierra Leone with various spinal orthoses and modifying existing equipment to involve Halo traction devices. He saw there was always an opportunity and need to help this area in other  aspects including patient care, physical therapy, nursing, and physicians. Andrew had a wonderful experience and would like to return at some point.
